More than a year ago, before I started this journey North-er, a friend gave me a book to read called, “Of Water and the Spirit: Ritual, Magic and Initiation in the Life of an African Shaman” by Malidoma Patrice Some. It’s almost as if this book fell into my hands.of water and of spirit.jpg

Malidoma shares an amazing story of his life when he lived in Africa as a child and the amazing things he experienced in the Traditional African culture. This book changed the way I view the world because it goes much more in-depth into culture than I’ve ever heard. I’m very grateful for that. 🙂

It’s been a couple of years ago that I’ve read this book (borrowed from my friends) and I’ve just purchased a copy of it on ebay (yet to receive it in the mail) so I can read it again…. with new eyes.

The main reason why I like to read books such as this one is that it shares something different than what is the norm in society today.

“The power of nature exists in its silence. Human words cannot encode the meaning because human language has access only to the shadow of meaning.”   Malidoma Patrice Some

Not so long ago people used to live in harmony with nature and the spirit world whereas today this is simply considered “old knowledge”…. shamanic. And so here we live in a society of cement buildings that keep us so disconnected from the world around us that we start chasing Pokémon on our phones. Yes, sure… a fun game. But it’s not actual reality.

And so the “old knowledge” – what’s left of it – absolutely fascinates me. Perhaps because it’s so elusive – and that makes a bit of mystery.

Shifting deep into the mysteries, shamanic, spiritual development.

Anyways, if you get a chance to read this book – grab it. Excellent Spiritual Development read.

“Among the Dagara, darkness is sacred. It is forbidden to illuminate it, for light scares the Spirit away…. The one exception to this rule is the bonfire.”
